Poacher in Pyhrn-Priel

Poacher - the very word sets the imagination in motion.

Sneak through deep, dark forests. Know exactly where to find chamois and deer. One shot, one hit. The hunter only finds a few fibers of fur and a blood stain.

In the forests of the Pyhrn-Priel region the poacher myth is still alive. Here poachers revolted against the rule or simply saved themselves from starvation.

The spirit of the mountain rebels can still be felt today: on the Mayralm in the Sengsengebirge - between Eiskapelle and Gamskogel - poachers and hunters once fought to the death.

Their paths also crossed near the Steyrsbergerreith in Vorderstoder - below lofty limestone peaks, on steep scree fields, in the middle of protected gentian and wild mountain pines.

Where else were poachers up to mischief? Around the Seespitz at the legendary Gleinkersee. A place as mystical as the story that locals tell behind closed doors. From the boldest of all poachers, Prince Schwarzenberg, who once stalked through the mountain forests here, undetected and fearless.
